[edit] Misc
[edit] Getting There
Mykolayiv has a small airport (ITA code NLV) that has connections to Moscow and Istanbul. The easiest way to get there is to fly to nearest large airport in Odessa (ODS) with connections to many cities in Europe and then take a bus or taxi to Mykolayiv.
[edit] Visas and Border Control
Citizens of EU, USA and most ex-USSR countries do not need visas to come to Ukraine. Please check the Ministry for Foreign Affairs web page for the complete list of visa requirements.
[edit] Currency Exchange and Credit Cards
Local currency is Hryvnia (pronounced as hrivnia, accent on the first syllable). Current exchange rate from Euros to Hryvnias is 1:10.6 (you can always look up the current rate at http://aval.ua/eng/).
You can use visa cards in many places here. Small cafeterias and bars won't accept them though. But larger ones will.
Any time you can fetch local currency from ATM's. The city is full of ATM's - usually there's one ATM each 50 meters ;) Exchange rates in ATM's are usually worse than cash rates, but they should still be fine.
It is advisable not to try to exchange money before arrival to Ukraine. Even if you find Hryvnias outside of Ukraine, you'll get inferior rate.
[edit] Food
Food expenses will roughly be 200-300 UAH/day (18-28 euro). There're plenty of food places around the venue.
[edit] Accomodation
The preferred way is to rent a flat for the time of the meeting. Please contact Alex for booking information.
If you would like to stay in a hotel, the best choice is:
[edit] Weather
It's warm here already (something like +15-+20) but there's a high chance it will rain. So, be prepared for rains ;)
[edit] Cellular Networks
99% of Ukrainian territory is covered by various GSM networks. So be sure to bring your GSM phone. CDMA networks exist, but they don't usually provide roaming.
[edit] Getting Comfortable With Cyrillic Alphabet
There's a Pimsleur Ukrainian language course which claims to teach Ukrainian in 10 days. I've got no idea how that works :)
I've yet to see good tutorials on the alphabet for beginners, but this page and this article may help somewhat.
Beware, they were written by non-native language speaker and are inaccurate.
